Just look at the food going bad in the harbors because Chavez nationalized private companies. He once food to be a “national priority”. Well trust me in Germany today I have much more food that I can eat. That had not been the case in Romania or Hungary. Ok people weren’t starving in Eastern Europe. But there was hardly any variety. In Venezuela Chavez’s opponents are not found in dumpsters hacked to death like in Honduras, you don’t disappear at night, soldiers don’t crush protests by invading towns, raping the women and taking away the men like what happened in the Mexican cities of Atenco and Oaxaca.

I’ve lived in Venezuela and it is quite obvious that you can say whatever you want, you simply can’t call for overthrowing the government or killing the president…which is also illegal in the U.S. by the way. Colombia under Uribe is more dangerous for journalists.
