The man has so much …
The man has so much humility. A truly humble acceptance speech. John Wayne has left a legacy that will go on for decades. Like many of his contemporaries John Wayne’s work lives on and on. Unlike some of the so called “stars” of today.

That has to be the …
That has to be the BEST award acceptance speech I’ve ever heard! Short, Honest, heart felt, and perfectly delivered. It just doesn’t get any better than the “Duke”! Back when “Stars” really did seem larger than life. They were starts on screen and looked like you’d imagine a “Star” would look like when you watched them on an award show. Today, it’s hard to tell a star from a street person! Half the time today they look like they grabbed something to wear from the hamper!
    Those were the days!

    I won’t say …
I won’t say anything bad about John Wayne as an actor, or even his political beliefs, but on his hypocrisy. During the Vietnam war, he used to say “get off your butt and join the Marines”, yet when he was eligible during WWII, he sought and got deferments, while actors like Jimmy Stewart, John Garfield and Robert Ryan went into the military.

    Oscars look like …
Oscars look like they’re rigged. Look at frame 0:29 and on. Jon Voight & Richard Burton have look like they know they lost and Duke has smug look like he’s won. Everyone involved must know the outcome before it’s announced. Dustin Hoffman was nominated & didn’t show. Do you think he’d have NOT appeared if he KNEW he was going to win? No way.

I just visited White ‘O Mornin where John filmed The Quiet Man and his presence is still there as Sean Thornton. What a great great actor and what a man. Nobodies perfect and so what if he said some things, you’ve gotta admire the man. Brilliant, my favourite actor.
