I presume every actor has a different contract. But I’m a child actress, and I was wondering if I somehow found out about a Broadway audition, how long (at the least) most child actors like myself stay there. With that said, I also would like to know, on average, how many months or weeks the rehearsals would last. Thank you!
Usually all child roles are at least double cast and even triple cast (2-3 kids alternating doing the 8 or so shows a week on Broadway). Staying with a show is mostly dependent on how long the child stays the correct height and can sing the right notes (if its a musical). Once a child gets too tall to play, sa, an 8 year old – or if a young boy or girl has a voice change issue – then they are usually negotiated out of the role – but may take another role in the show.
You could rehearse anywhere from 1 month (if you are a new replacement) to 6 months (if you are originating a new role).
