    I’m sorry I didn’t …
    I’m sorry I didn’t find the poetry in “bitches and hoes” repeated over and over. You’re right, he’s the new Lord Byron. I also apologize for think I invented gangsta rap like I claimed anywhere on this thread. I don’t know what I was (not) thinking! Did you even bother to read what I wrote? Did I say racism doesn’t exist? Do you have any reading comprehension skills whatsoever? Well, if you did, you wouldn’t find either Cobain or Shakur to be all that gifted, now would you?

  9. JackOfferlott says:

    You are absolutely …
    You are absolutely right. It really has nothing to do with either of their respective talents. It’s just that the plum roles they’ve been offered have dried up. It’s a shame. Pacino and De Niro are much more capable than any of the newer actors of today.

  10. jaxl2009 says:

    DiCaprio is …
    DiCaprio is catching up on De Niro as far as the number of movies done with Scorsese. De Niro has done 8 movies with Scorsese. With Shutter Island, DiCaprio now has 5. And he is set to play Frank Sinatra in another Scorsese movie.

  11. jaxl2009 says:

    I don’t think he’s …
    I don’t think he’s been getting good roles worthy of his talent over the past decade but he had a lot of great ones during the 1990′s – Goodfellas, Cape Fear, This Boy’s Life, A Bronx Tale, Casino, Heat,Sleepers, Cop Land, and Ronin. The same thing could be said for Pacino. The caliber his roles were great up through the 1990′s but not so much over the past decade.

    De niro and …
    De niro and Scorsese were the best combo. I think scorsese’s next movie should have De niro instead Decaprio

  13. KurtCobain198666 says:

    yes, thats how …
    yes, thats how simple the world is. We’re all just people, and there never has been a black/white devide. Oh but such ignorant fools believe that devide has gone. Except for the racially motivated murder of stephen lawrence for example.
    If you cannot grasp the lyrics of Shakur, you have no concept of good lyrics. Maybe you should listen to ‘Trapped’ or ‘Chages.’ Or perhaps you’re another ignoramus of your generation who believes he produced ‘gangster rap.’

    You make an excellent point. By being blank canvases, they can paint whatever picture they want on themselves. Thumbs up for your comment!

  15. JackOfferlott says:

    Very true! People …
    Very true! People here misinterpret what I’m saying. He is an actor of the highest caliber. There are few up there with him: Pacino, Brando, Nicholson. He has no equal amongst the current crop. He gave us some memorable performances that prove him to be an all time great. Regardless of the past two decades, De Niro is top notch! Great post, 1lricardo!

  16. JackOfferlott says:

    You’ve just shown …
    You’ve just shown how ignorant you truly are. There is no “generation” just like there isn’t “black people”. We are all human beings. These labels are used to the benefit of merchants. Cobain and Shakur were exalted as a marketing ploy. Shakur is not nor was he ever a hero for African Americans. Cobain never spoke for people born 1964-1979 or 20-something’s in general. You lack the critical thinking ability for serious discussion of the matter. Grow up and stop being such a corporate tool.

  17. KurtCobain198666 says:

    don’t patronise me …
    don’t patronise me you arrogant individual. My screen name did nothing to disprove my opinion, since it is an opinion (if you’d like me to paste a definition, just ask) If you didn’t think black people saw TUPAC as a hero, then you clearly didn’t understand the 90′s generation. Maybe you need to look at the lyrics, or some of his quotes before you make an opinion and call it fact. There’s no myth or idolisation behind Pac or Cobain, again listen to the words before you post judgement.

  18. JackOfferlott says:

    @KurtCobain198666

    @KurtCobain198666

    Anyone with the screen name Kurt Cobain…
    It’s like the 2pac thing. I was around for both of those idiots. No one thought they were generational spokesmen or Byronic heroes when they were alive. The myth came ex post facto. What your name tells me is that you’re a bandwagon guy. You’re saying DeNiro’s past 20 years were just fine because that’s what you’re supposed to say. You’re young, so I don’t blame you. One day, you’ll develop a taste and see what I was getting at.

    @machiaveliyoohoo

    OK. Meet the Parents, Midnight Run, parody of his image…where’s the distinction? You misunderstand what I’m getting at. I respect DeNiro and think he’s an incredible actor. I’m not saying he can’t do it. All I’m saying is that he’s been phoning it in for the past 20 years. That’s it. Maybe the movies he’s been offered haven’t been the greatest. It probably isn’t his fault. I’m just saying…

  20. 1lricardo says:

    … personally, I …
    … personally, I would pay to watch De Niro sit and read the Yellow Pages!

  21. 1lricardo says:

    I agree w/ an …
    I agree w/ an earlier poster- Robert De Niro has contributed such greatness, if he never does another “”worthwhile” performance again, his performances up unitl the early ’90s in more than enough.

  22. KurtCobain198666 says:

    he’s done plenty of …
    he’s done plenty of films where his acting was top end, and not even played a gangster. Frankenstein for example.

  23. machiaveliyoohoo says:

    @JackOfferlott : …
    @JackOfferlott : contd : Awakenings shows (to mainstream audiences) he could play vunerable characters, Midnight Run was a variation on the ‘tough guy with a heart ‘ character, but still an interesting performance…and as lightweight as the movie was, Meet the Parents , shows ( as he has before in subtler ways) that he plays farce well. The “entertainment media” tend to focus on his mob, tough guy roles, because in their eyes actors need to be labelled but he’s done so much more than that.

  24. machiaveliyoohoo says:

    @JackOfferlott : …
    @JackOfferlott : Even the most ardant De Niro fans would admit that some of his performances over the last 2 decades would be considered in the realms of self parody ( Analyse This even played on that self parody), and I’m sure he’s well aware of that, however he has still done great work (” Heat”in particular was a subtler, introspective, powerful performance unlike his Mob roles, “Awakenings” shows

  25. JackOfferlott says:

    I’m not questioning …
    I’m not questioning his influence. As a matter of fact, I love DeNiro. However, let’s be honest. He’s been Jimmy Conway or a parody thereof for the past 20 years.
